Update on Back to School Plans

Update on Back to School Plans

San Angelo, we know you are waiting for an update about the upcoming school year so you can begin planning. Our team is working diligently to deliver that information to you.

The health and safety of our students and staff remains our guiding priority, and we are utilizing recently released information as a framework to determine what the school year will look like. For example, this Tuesday, July 7th, the Texas Education Agency released public health guidelines to reopen schools. Also, an executive order issued by Governor Abbott was released on Thursday, July 2nd, and is reflective of the recent rise in COVID-19 cases in our community and State.

As we work to create a thorough plan, we do want to provide you an update as promised.

At this time, what we know is:

  1. You will still have the choice of in-classroom or virtual instruction, but with the ability to select your preference at each 9-week grading period; this is a change from our previous announcement that required a selection for a full semester.
  2. For in-class instruction, safety protocols will be in place including distancing measures.
  3. In accordance with Governor Abbott’s order, masks will be required for all students age 10 and older when distancing measures are not feasible.
  4. We’ve ordered one hundred and thirty thousand masks to provide students as-needed.
  5. Virtual learning will be conducted through a new, enhanced online learning program. We are excited about this option and can’t wait to share more information soon.

This situation is constantly evolving, and we will continue to update you as more information becomes available. We are planning two Facebook Live sessions next week to provide more information and to answer questions you may have. We will provide more details in the coming days.

We are in this together and we look forward to our students and staff returning for another successful school year.
