Holiman Elementary Receives Sheep Statue

January 23, 2020

At an unveiling ceremony Thursday afternoon, Holiman Elementary became the first elementary school in San Angelo ISD to receive a sheep statue.

According to Holiman Principal Ginger Luther, the sheep was "truly a community effort." That effort began last year when second graders wrote letters asking local businesses to sponsor a fiberglass sheep for their school. Crockett National Bank responded and donated the statue.

Holiman students and staff created patches with images depicting all the grade levels and departments at the school as well as other meaningful elements from their community. Students from the Lake View High School Art Club designed and painted the sheep and applied the patches to the finished statue. The auto body class at West Texas Training Center led by teacher Brennan Rollwitz applied the final clear coat finish to the sheep.

The SAISD Maintenance department will mount the sheep to a boulder in front of the school where it will stand for the entire community to enjoy.
