Central High School Student Selected to All-Region Symphony Orchestra

February 6, 2019

Congratulations to Central High School junior Lucas Moralez on earning 1st place at the All-Region Symphony Orchestra.

Lucas earned the right to perform in the All-Region Orchestra by placing first at the Region 6 auditions this past October in Midland. Region 6 includes San Angelo, Midland, Odessa, Abilene, and Wichita Falls. Once selected to the all-region orchestra, students must then compete again for their spot in the orchestra during the all-region clinic held in January.

During the two-day clinic, which took place January 25-26 in Abilene, students worked with clinician Steven Ward from Abilene Christian University and auditioned for their spot in the orchestra. The clinic culminated with a concert on the final night.

Next year, Lucas plans on auditioning for the All-State Orchestra. The all-state audition process for orchestra is a very extensive and difficult process. Students do not automatically receive a spot in the All-State Orchestra based on their placement in the All-Region Orchestra. Students who make the All-Region Orchestra are given the chance to compete for the All-State Orchestra through a separate audition process. The all-state process begins in May of each year when the music selections are revealed. Students must learn a great amount of music in preparation for the audition and must compete against students from all over the state, not just their own region. All-state auditions are held each October two weeks after the all-region auditions.

Lucas plays the viola in the Central High School Orchestra under the direction of Emilee Hall-Rocha and Mykel Martin.

Congratulations to Lucas for this prestigious honor and good luck next year!
