Central High School to Showcase UIL Academic Program

October 22, 2018

On October 30, CHS’s UIL Academics program will be opening its doors to the community in an event designed to connect some of Central’s hardest-working students with professionals that would love to harness that talent.  The event, called “UIL University,” will showcase students from one of Central’s most successful programs, include guest speakers, and provide an opportunity for interested students and families to learn how UIL Academics can launch them toward their futures.

The Central Bobcats have built a reputation for success across a variety of academic and athletic programs.  Central High students are celebrated for their hard work and dedication on the field of competition and in the classroom.

UIL Academics is a program designed to challenge students beyond what they encounter in a normal classroom.  Each academic discipline connects to a variety of UIL events, so there are many opportunities available. For example, those who excel in reading may compete in Literary Criticism, which tests students’ knowledge of selected readings or literary terms and figures.  Students interested in science can push themselves on the UIL Science test, which includes sections over biology, chemistry, and physics. Regardless of the event, competitors sharpen their skills at a level that often surpasses Advanced Placement or dual credit classes.

Central’s UIL Academics program boasts nine consecutive district titles, a tradition the team hopes to continue in the new metroplex district.  Principal Bill Waters voiced optimism about the Bobcats’ chances. “Just like we are in athletics, our academic teams are in a tough new district, but we are still the school to beat,” he said.  “This is the standard we set for ourselves: anyone who wants to win district will have to get through us!”
