SAISD To Dedicate Lake View Monument
November 5, 2015
Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 11, at 2:00 PM, San Angelo ISD will hold a special ceremony to dedicate a monument signifying the history of Lake View’s public schools, dating back to the opening of the first school in 1911. The Lake View High School Band will perform, the Lake View JROTC will provide a color guard, and members of the SAISD Board of Trustees as well as district administrators will be present. SAISD Superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff and SAISD Board of Trustees member and Lake View graduate Bill Dendle are scheduled as speakers.
The monument, which is located at the site of the former Lincoln Junior High at 42nd and Bowie, pays tribute to various events of forty years during which Lake View was its own independent school district, known as Lake View ISD, from 1927 until 1967, before consolidating with San Angelo ISD. 4 items are set in the monument: a 1928 inset from the building’s foyer, marble plaques from 1928 and 1938, and a bronze plaque from 1953, referencing the tornado of that year and the resulting reconstruction of the school building.
The public is cordially invited to attend.
