SAISD Assistant Principal Named Principal of The Year

San Angelo ISD Central Freshman Assistant Principal Merl Brandon has been named the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Principal of the Year. While serving in his previous district, Mr. Brandon was named the Region XV Principal of the Year, joining 19 other nominees across the state. That group was narrowed to three finalists prior to the announcement that Mr. Brandon was selected to receive the top honor. TASSP plans to officially bestow the title on Mr. Brandon at the SAISD January school board meeting.

Mr. Brandon began his career in Miles ISD in 1992, where he taught for six years before serving as an administrator at Irion County ISD for one year. Prior to coming to San Angelo ISD, Mr. Brandon has served since 1999 as the principal of Miles High School. His campus has been a TEA Recognized high school for the past four consecutive years in addition to being named in US News' "America's Best High Schools" and Texas Monthly's "Five Star School in Texas." He has been named the Region XV Principal of the Year three times, including in 2011, and was also a state finalist for Principal of the Year in 2008. He began his duties in SAISD November 28.
