Bond Progress Report - 12/7/2009
December 7, 2009
Santa Rita Project:
Phase 1B (north wing) is moving ahead as scheduled. Work is currently taking place in the classroom restroom areas, the classrooms and corridors. Due to a delay in the Forbo tile shipment, I made the decision to move ahead with carpet tile in the classrooms. The carpet is being laid this week and the tile in the restroom and wet areas will follow. The new cabinets are being installed in the classrooms and all is on schedule for abatement to occur in Phase 2 during the Christmas break. Six classrooms in the south wing will be the next area for work scheduled between January 4 and March 12, 2010.
Reese Albert has completed the dirt work and the concrete company is busy with the pier holes. While the project is behind schedule due to weather, we have seen an increase in the work over the past few weeks. However, with the wet weather expected this week, progress will again slow down.
We are scheduled to begin excavation at Lee this week. Weather will delay the start of this project. The new electrical transformer is in place and all of the conversions have been made to be ready for the construction. Abatement is taking place under the building and will continue through December.
Mid-Tex of Midland issued the bid documents for Goliad and we will receive bids this week. We will have a GMP for the December Board meeting. The bid opening will be December 3, 2009 and construction should start in January 2010.
San Jacinto Project:
We continue to work with the architect and his team on this project. We are getting close to completing the plans for this project. Plans should be ready for bids to be released in January with construction to start in April.
Huckabee will have the bid documents delivered to Lee Lewis on December 10 for Phase 1 of the CHS project. The first phase will include the new administration/science building, the new WTTC shops, the new Ag/Building Maintenance shop, new HVAC in both gyms and a few other renovation pieces. Phase 2 will be several months later and will include the rest of the renovations. I am anticipating a GMP on Phase 1 in February with construction to begin immediately on the WTTC shops that will include Auto Tech, Auto Body, Building Trades and 2 classrooms for Howard College. This building is to be completed prior to school starting in August of 2010. Other construction on the campus will begin in July of 2010 after abatement and demolition of Emerson Hall.
We are working on the design phase for this project. There have been several meetings with the principal and architect to begin to develop a scope of work. We have had an initial meeting to begin the planning phase on Crockett. It will be the next project we will begin working on and hope to have it ready for bidding in March of 2010. We have issued a Request for Proposal on the Construction Manager At-Risk for Crockett and plan on awarding it in December.
Kinney Architects has begun some preliminary work on Glenmore. We will begin our design phase meeting in January and hope to have this project ready for bids in May of 2010.
