Lincoln Middle School Establishes Junior Historian Club

December 6, 2007

The Lincoln Middle School Junior Historian Club was established during the fall semester of the 2007-2008 school year. The club, which is affiliated with the Texas State Historical Association, received its official charter on November 5, 2007.

The purpose of the club is to generate and encourage interest in the study and preservation of history. Opportunities are provided for students to participate in chapter activities that enable them to discover and research history, both in the classroom and in the community.

The Lincoln Middle School Junior Historian Club is the first of its kind within SAISD. The club has already been involved in numerous activities including the local Veterans Day parade. The clubs members are also scheduled to assist at the annual "Christmas at Old Fort Concho" event.

The club, which is open to all LMS 8th grade students and currently has 46 active members, has plans to set-up a speaker series, and would even like to establish a scholarship fund for an outstanding history/social studies student at Lake View.
