SAISD to Conduct Active Shooter Drill
July 19, 2018
As a component of our comprehensive safety plan, SAISD has partnered with the Angelo State University Police Department, the San Angelo Police Department, and the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department to conduct an Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) exercise on Friday, July 20 on an SAISD secondary campus.
The training exercise will be run by certified ALERRT instructors from the Texas Tech Police Department. These live exercises will take place on the Lee Middle School campus located at 2500 Sherwood Way. As a result, the public may see numerous emergency vehicles and personnel at the Lee Middle School campus on July 20.
Active shooter training is important given the rise of such incidents across the country. This exercise is unique as it is the first time we have had a joint endeavor involving multiple agencies in San Angelo. Should an active shooter event occur, multiple agencies would likely respond to the scene. It is critical that local agencies train together to be better prepared.
